Residential Institute
NIIH Residential Institute
The Naturopathic Herbalist Program introduces a mandatory Residential Institute for distance learners (the virtual format). This experience offers professional engagement, practical learning and core development in Indigenous Medicine and Traditional African Practice.
NIIH’s virtual naturopathic herbalist students will be required to complete a four-day (Friday-Monday) residency experience once a year. Students will attend the first residential institute after the successful completion of Term II and the second residential institute after the successful completion of Term IV. Annual residencies will be hosted in Jacksonville, Florida.
This frontal experiential requirement yields an opportunity for instructors to engage with learners to assess competency and evaluate readiness. During the residential institute, students are assigned small group activities to develop key dexterities required for clinical field experiences and professional improvement. Interacting with colleagues and instructors in this capacity creates a textbook opportunity for students to receive real-time feedback and mentorship to enhance and mature in practice.
A successful completion of CH33610 Clinical Herbal Protocol I, CH33620 Herbal Pharmacy I, CH33640 Internal Practicum I, CH55810 Clinical Herbal Protocol II, CH55820 Herbal Pharmacy II, and CH55840 Internal Practicum II is approximately twenty-five percent (25%) of the naturopathic herbalist program’s requisites. Meaning, these assignments are weighty – the assessments are a benchmark for applied behaviors. Students will be required to pass each course and supplementary competencies to proceed in the program.
Learners should expect assigned readings, discussion board interactions, and frontal learning opportunities through classroom and community engagement. Students will have a chance to experience a day in the life of a naturopathic herbalist in the apothecary setting as well as the practice.
** There is a $150 registration fee per residential institute for Naturopathic Herbalist students. Residential Institute is not a mandatory prerequisite for Natural Health Practitioner students; however, these students may attend to gain advanced skill sets. There is a $375 registration fee per residential institute for Natural Health Practitioner students.
